UNNAMED Project

For this project we were instructed to find a site, look at the surroundings, propose a main program and integrate it with a pre-assigned subprogram. The program that my partner and myself agreed on was a nightclub, the pre-assigned subprogram was a pool hall. We believed that integrated the two was going to be challenging but if preformed the correct way, it could result in a harmonious programming. The professor in this studio was made to be the client for this project and would often instruct us like he was the client.

SITE:

The site of this building is located on the crossroads of North Scottsdale Road and Camelback Road in Scottsdale, Arizona. This area is extremely popular in the night life scene.

FLOOR 1:

This is the first floor of the nightclub/ pool hall. The entrance is in the very center of the bottom of the building. While there is a parking garage where customers are able to take the elevator, the site is situated in an area where many nightclub goers often walk from bar to bar. The center of this floor has the same decorative stair that every floor will have. This floor also has plenty of seating indoors and outdoors.

FLOOR 2:

This is the second floor of the nightclub/ pool hall. In this area there is a restaurant off to the left hand side fully equipped with a kitchen to serve customers, custom designed furniture, and plenty of seating for varying sizes of parties. In the central area (STAIR 1) there is a decorative stair that wraps around the elevator. On these landings on the back side, they are areas where customers can lounge at standing tables and have a view of the floor below. On the right hand side, there is an asymmetrical pentagon which looks to below. There is also a landing that drops five feet under where the other cutomers stand and is meant for large parties. This is where you will get a great view of the floor below.

FLOOR 3:

The third floor is an area primarily meant for pool. This area offers a lounge that is quieter for the customers to come in and enjoy pool. This floor also contains an outdoor area with pool tables as well as areas to look out at the other establishments.

FLOOR 4:

Floor 4 is the most intimate of all floors. Floor 4 is a members only floor where the most luxurious pool tables are, private balcony areas, staff members, VIP areas, and more. This floor is to create a space where the client would truly feel like they are in a private pool hall where all their needs are met.

Structural Perspective:

This perspective shows off how the structural aspects of the building would sit without any of the skin or exterior ornamentations.

Perspective Section:

For sections, I believe that perspective sections are the most informational of all drawings. This provides much insight on how the building is stacked on top of each other.

Clay Model:

This is a perspective shot of the clay model of this structure. While there is not a lot of information, it provides a lot of insight on how the building rests on the site and what the exterior will look like.

Triangle Flat

For this project I was challenged along with my partner to recreate a design of a two bedroom apartment but using a painted by the minimalist artist, Ellsworth Kelly. Our painting was "Yellow Relief Over Red". For this painting we tried to think about it in a 3D space and we are only perhaps looking at it in a 2D fashion. Here is when we came up with the main shapes of triangles. For when a triangle is 3D, but viewed in 2D from the side, it is a square.

Triangle Flat: Unfoldable Paper Model

The paper model is made of Canson paper. All joineries are made of paper as well.

This shows the model unfolding and the second floor detached from the first.
